Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he will seek the attention of United States President Donald Trump if he believes the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is not conducted in a free and fair manner.
The award-winning artiste made the remarks during a livestream hosted by comedian and content creator Carter Efe, where he spoke about Nigeria’s electoral process and his interest in politics.
Davido said he would only consider contesting for public office when elections in the country become transparent, arguing that the current system lacks credibility.
According to him, “Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election. If there’s a free and fair election, let everybody come out to vote, I will win. But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write the results.”
Speaking on the upcoming Osun governorship election, the singer said he was closely monitoring developments and hoped the electoral process would be credible.
He further stated that if he was dissatisfied with the conduct of the election, he would draw international attention to the issue by appealing to President Trump and other influential figures.
“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, Help us” , – he said.
Davido ended his remarks with an appeal for a peaceful and credible election in his home state, saying, “Leave Osun alone.”
