Two beneficiaries of the foreign scholarship initiative sponsored by the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Unyime Idem, have graduated with distinctions from Coventry University, United Kingdom.
The beneficiaries, Edikan Saturday Michael and Precious John Ekong, obtained Master of Science degrees in International Business Management and Molecular Biology, respectively.
Idem, who disclosed this in a statement, said the outstanding academic performances of the two scholars had strengthened his determination to sponsor more young Akwa Ibomites to study abroad.
He described their achievements as a demonstration of what young people could accomplish when given the right opportunities, support and enabling environment.
The lawmaker said his commitment to education went beyond foreign scholarships, noting that it also included the provision of conducive learning environments and educational infrastructure across his constituency.
He recalled that on September 24, 2024, he sent Michael and Ekong to the United Kingdom for an all-expenses-paid master’s programme, providing them with financial support and urging them to represent their constituency, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria creditably.
The latest achievement comes shortly after Idem commissioned a six classroom storey building and another two classroom block, which he constructed and furnished at his alma mater, Western Annang Secondary Commercial School, Ukanafun.
According to him, similar educational projects are at various stages of completion in other schools across the constituency.
Idem described the interventions as deliberate investments in the future of young people and the human capital required to drive sustainable development in the constituency.
He said quality education, relevant skills and access to opportunities remained among the most enduring legacies that could be left for future generations.
While congratulating the two graduates, the lawmaker urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of their constituency, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.
Idem also encouraged them to deploy the knowledge and skills acquired through their studies to service, innovation and positive impact wherever they find themselves.
