The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two locally fabricated pistols and three caps bearing inscriptions associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The items were recovered on Thursday by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit during a routine patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives spotted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
He said the riders, upon sighting the police team, suddenly turned the motorcycle and attempted to evade the officers, prompting a pursuit.
Ikenga said the suspects eventually fell from the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush, abandoning the motorcycle, two slippers and a bag.
A search of the abandoned bag subsequently led to the discovery of the two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing inscriptions linked to the Vikings Confraternity.
The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, as well as establish their affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered items
CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed officers to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects.
