The widow and children of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, have appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance, citing growing difficulties in meeting basic needs following the actor’s death.

The appeal was made during an interview with content creator King Mitchy, where the family spoke about the economic challenges they have faced in recent months.

Mr Ibu’s widow disclosed that their home has been without electricity for about two months due to unpaid bills and that the family now relies on water from a well because of financial constraints.

According to her, the family has also struggled to pay house rent and other essential expenses, forcing them to seek alternative means of charging their phones.

She further revealed that the children’s education has been affected by the family’s financial situation, stating that unpaid school fees could prevent them from continuing their studies.

One of Mr Ibu’s daughters commended her mother for her efforts to care for the family despite the hardships, saying she has continued to do everything possible to provide food, pay school fees and support the children.

King Mitchy, who conducted the interview, said support is being sought to help the family settle outstanding school fees, pay rent and restore electricity to their residence.

Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most renowned comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62. His death was widely mourned across the entertainment industry and beyond.
