Canadian rapper Drake has won more than $1 million after Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 to book a place in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Grammy-winning artist had placed a $770,000 wager on Canada to qualify for the next round. Following the victory, the bet returned a payout of $1,001,000.
Ahead of the match, Drake shared a screenshot of the stake on Instagram, revealing that the wager was sparked by a friendly exchange with South African DJ Black Coffee.
“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise the STAKES,” Drake wrote.
Canada sealed the victory in dramatic fashion as Stephen Eustáquio scored the decisive goal in stoppage time at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, securing the co-host nation’s first-ever qualification for the World Cup Round of 16.

Although South Africa exited the tournament, Bafana Bafana impressed with a historic campaign, reaching the knockout stage for the first time after finishing second in their group.
The team, led by Hugo Broos, also recorded a notable 1-0 victory over South Korea during the group phase to secure their place in the Round of 32.
Drake, who is known for placing high-value bets on major sporting events, added another winning ticket to his record as Canada’s historic World Cup run continued.
