First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for increased investment in healthcare, education and youth development, saying Nigeria must prioritise its people as the country’s population continues to grow.
In a statement issued on Saturday to commemorate the 2026 World Population Day, the First Lady said sustained investment in human capital is critical to ensuring inclusive and sustainable national development.
She noted that every Nigerian, particularly women and young people, should have access to quality healthcare, education and opportunities to realise their full potential.
“As Nigeria’s population continues to grow, we must increase investment in our greatest asset, our people. Through collective action, we can empower families, promote healthy lives, support our youth, and ensure sustainable development for generations to come,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu also urged Nigerians who have yet to register for a National Identity Number (NIN) to do so, explaining that accurate population data is essential for effective government planning and the delivery of basic services.
According to her, comprehensive population data will help authorities make informed decisions and adequately provide for the country’s growing population.
The First Lady joined the global community in marking the 2026 World Population Day and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to promoting the wellbeing of its citizens through strategic investment in people.
