Cross River Police Arrest Suspect After Man Dies Of Stabbing

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Michael Ndifon, over the alleged fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old resident, Charles Ekuma Eze, in Etayip Community, Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on July 4 following an argument between the two men, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah.

In a statement issued on Monday, Eitokpah said the Ikom Police Division received a report of the incident at about 10:37 p.m. from community leaders Ndifon Ndifon and Felix Agbor.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ndifon allegedly stabbed Eze on the right side of his rib with a dagger during the altercation at about 5:46 p.m.

The victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Ikom before being referred to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Police said the deceased’s body has been deposited in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The suspect has been taken into custody, while the alleged murder weapon has been recovered and retained as evidence.

Eitokpah said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.

He assured residents that the command would provide updates as investigations continue and urged the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
