The Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the policies are beginning to produce positive results reflected in Nigeria’s macroeconomic indicators.
Emmanuel, a former banker, acknowledged that the country is still grappling with economic challenges but said recent improvements in key economic fundamentals provide reasons for optimism and should encourage Nigerians to support the Federal Government’s reform agenda.
His position was conveyed by his Special Assistant on Media, Stephen Abia, during a briefing with journalists ahead of the former governor’s 60th birthday.
According to Emmanuel, countries facing major economic and national challenges require collective support for the leadership to restore stability.
“Tinubu’s administration had recorded encouraging progress in critical macroeconomic indicators, adding that the President deserves the support of Nigerians as efforts continue to stabilise the economy” he said
Abia also revealed that Emmanuel cancelled plans for a public celebration of his 60th birthday, choosing instead to observe the milestone privately through prayer, reflection and contemplation on leadership, responsibility and nation building.
The former governor expressed confidence that the gains recorded in Nigeria’s macroeconomic fundamentals would, over time, translate into improved living standards for citizens and strengthen the country’s overall economic outlook.
He further stressed that policies aimed at advancing the national interest should receive broad support regardless of political affiliation and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting reforms that promote sustainable economic growth, stability and long-term national prosperity.
