The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected a Federal High Court order issued in Lokoja, Kogi State, describing it as legally unfounded and a threat to Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
In a statement signed by the party’s leader, Sen. Seriake Dickson, the NDC said the order, delivered by Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, was aimed at undermining the party’s credibility and political progress.
The party argued that the court’s decision lacked legal merit and was intended to stifle democratic participation by narrowing the political space. It vowed to challenge the ruling through the courts.
According to the statement, the NDC has assembled a team of lawyers to take immediate legal steps to set aside the order and restore what it described as normalcy.
He urged its members, supporters and candidates across the country to remain calm and continue their political activities, insisting that the development would not derail its mission or preparations for future elections.
National Democratic Congress also questioned the legal standing of the association that instituted the suit, claiming it is an unregistered body that is neither a registered political party nor among the associations that applied for registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2025.
The statement further alleged that the association had no legal interest in the matter and suggested that the lawsuit was politically motivated by individuals unsettled by the party’s rapid growth over the past five months.
