It Will Deter Kidnappers” — Oshiomhole Backs Okpebholo’s Proposal to Execute Convicted Kidnappers, Cultists in Edo

Former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has thrown his support behind Governor Monday Okpebholo’s proposed plan to enforce the death penalty for convicted kidnappers and cultists in the state.

Speaking on the proposal, Oshiomhole argued that carrying out executions would serve as a strong deterrent to criminal activities.

“It will keep those who want to go into kidnapping in check,” Oshiomhole said, defending the governor’s stance on tackling insecurity.

The proposal is part of the Edo State government’s efforts to combat rising cases of kidnapping and cult-related violence.

It has, however, sparked public debate, with supporters describing it as a tough response to crime, while critics have raised concerns about the legal, ethical, and human rights implications of capital punishment.
