Nigerian entrepreneur and fitness expert, Bunmi George, popularly known as Jbums, has revealed that her husband worked in her company for 11 months after losing his job as a pilot, describing the experience as a defining period that strengthened their marriage.
George made the disclosure during an interview on the Dear Ife podcast hosted by Ife Agoro, where she recounted how her husband responded to the unexpected setback with humility and determination.
According to her, shortly after losing his job, her husband called a family meeting and proposed measures to reduce household expenses, including selling one of their two cars and cutting down on domestic staff to reflect their new financial reality.
Although she remained employed and continued earning an income, George said her husband insisted the family should adjust to living on a single source of income.
“He told me we had to cut down our expenses because there was only one income coming into the home,” she said.
Beyond introducing cost-saving measures, George said her husband took on additional responsibilities at home, assisting with cooking, cleaning and other household chores while remaining actively involved in leading the family.
She further disclosed that he later joined her fitness company, Shredder Gang, where he worked alongside other employees and received a salary for 11 months. During that period, he also personally handled product deliveries without customers knowing he was a former commercial pilot.
George described his willingness to work under her leadership as a demonstration of humility, adding that she made a conscious effort to continue treating him with respect despite becoming the family’s primary breadwinner.
“I believe my husband is a leader, and leadership is not about how much money you make. It’s about the position you have in the home,” she said.
Reflecting on the experience, the entrepreneur said the difficult period ultimately strengthened their relationship, noting that her husband remained productive throughout his unemployment by praying, fasting, managing household responsibilities and preparing the family for future challenges.
She added that the experience reinforced the importance of resilience, mutual respect and partnership in marriage, stressing that leadership is defined by character and responsibility rather than financial status.
