Bandits have reportedly demanded a staggering โฆ500 million ransom for the release of an elderly man abducted in Kogi State, following the emergence of a disturbing video showing the victim pleading with his family to secure his freedom.
The video, which has circulated on social media, shows the visibly distressed captive appealing to his relatives to raise the demanded ransom. Armed men believed to be members of the kidnapping gang can also be seen coordinating phone calls in the background.
According to a post shared on X by a user identified as Usman (@secmxx), the gang’s commander was allegedly seen receiving multiple calls while the recording was being made.
The post further claimed that bandits sometimes move several kilometres to areas with network coverage to communicate with their associates and transmit ransom videos
Meanwhile, troops operating under Operation Whirl Stroke have reportedly intensified efforts against criminal elements in the area, as security operations continue in response to the worsening security situation.
