
The Cross River State Police Command has impounded 25 vehicles for operating without registration plates and for using covered, altered, defaced, obscured, or unauthorised dealer number plates
Police command Regulatory exercise, was carried out on July 3 across the Calabar metropolis, followed a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening vehicle identification and enhancing public safety.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, stating that motorists found violating the directive had been subjected to the required administrative and legal procedures and were being prosecuted in accordance with the law.
According to the statement, the operation is intended to deny criminal elements the anonymity often associated with unregistered or concealed number plates while improving security across the state.
“The Cross River State Police Command remains committed to intelligence-led, proactive, and community focused policing. The enforcement exercise will continue across the state, and motorists are advised to comply with all traffic and vehicle registration regulations,” Eitokpah said.
Eitokpah also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with vehicle registration requirements and reporting suspicious persons or activities through the police emergency lines.
