The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied reports that he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, while reaffirming his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, said he did not need to occupy any position in the campaign council to contribute to the President’s electoral success.

Reports had recently suggested that Wike was among senior politicians and government officials allegedly lobbying for, or being considered for, the position of Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

However, the minister, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the reports as false.

In a statement issued on Monday, Wike said he had not discussed the leadership or membership of the campaign council with anyone.

The minister said he was currently outside the country, taking a break after spending more than 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new projects and inspecting ongoing ones in the Federal Capital Territory.

He said his priority upon returning would be to continue delivering on his mandate in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and contribute to strengthening Tinubu’s electoral prospects in Rivers State and the FCT.

“I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has remained a key figure in the Tinubu administration despite his party affiliation.
