The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence of reclaiming Osun State in the August 15, 2026, governorship election, declaring that the state is ready to return to the party’s “progressive fold.”
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, made the declaration on Tuesday while inaugurating the party’s National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election in Abuja.
Yilwatda described the election as strategically important to the ruling party and urged members of the campaign council to conduct an issue based campaign anchored on unity, discipline and grassroots engagement.
He said the council comprised experienced party leaders capable of delivering victory, while calling on APC members in Osun to remain united and work collectively toward the party’s success at the polls.
Speaking after the inauguration, the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, said the people of Osun were prepared for a change in leadership and eager to return the state to progressive governance.
Oyebamiji thanked President Bola Tinubu, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the APC leadership for constituting what he described as a formidable campaign council.
According to him, the party has intensified its grassroots campaign across the state’s three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, 26 state constituencies, 30 local government areas, 332 political wards and 3,762 polling units.
He said the campaign had engaged traditional rulers, market associations, artisans, professionals, women, youths, students and religious leaders, adding that the response from residents had been encouraging.
The APC candidate argued that Osun stands to benefit more from aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the state should not be left out of ongoing national reforms and development initiatives.
He also cited solidarity rallies held in Osogbo, Ila, Iragbiji, Ikire, Ile-Ife, Iwo, Ilesa and Ede as signs of growing support for the party ahead of the election.
Responding on behalf of the campaign council, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma pledged that the council would conduct a peaceful, issue-based campaign centred on persuasion, facts and grassroots mobilisation.
Uzodimma said the APC would focus on presenting its programmes and record in government rather than engaging in political attacks, while reaffirming the party’s commitment to a peaceful, free and credible governorship election.
He urged party members to remain united and disciplined, expressing confidence that the APC would secure victory in the August 15 governorship poll.
