Cross River Scrap Agency DG Alleges Plot to Disable Him, Says Fetish Pot Was Exhumed

The Director General of the Cross River State Scrap Regulatory Agency, Venerable (Capt. rtd) JE Offiong, has alleged that fetish items were buried as part of a plot to incapacitate him and force him out of office.

Offiong made the allegation in a letter dated October 14, 2026, addressed to the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, in which he reported what he described as a deliberate attempt to undermine his health and position.

The letter, titled “Report of Vindication and Exposure of Diabolical Activities in My Office at the Scrap Regulatory Agency,” detailed what the agency chief described as a series of challenges he had faced since assuming office.

According to Offiong, his appointment was met with internal resistance, including a petition allegedly sponsored against him and signed by the agency’s secretary. He said the petition accused him of incompetence and contained what he described as false claims about his health and military service record.

He disclosed that Governor Otu referred the matter to the Senior State Security Adviser for investigation, adding that he cooperated fully with the committee.

Offiong said he had waited for more than two years for the outcome of the investigation, during which he experienced unexplained health challenges and what he described as confusion within the agency.

Alleged Plot to Incapacitate DG

Recounting the latest development, Offiong said an individual who identified himself as a native doctor visited his office premises and a location at Akai Efa forest on October 14, 2026.

According to the Director General, the individual allegedly confessed to having been contracted by some persons to bury fetish items, commonly referred to as juju, with the intention of incapacitating him and preventing him from effectively carrying out his official duties.

Offiong claimed that the alleged plan was intended to make him appear incapable of performing his responsibilities, reportedly through a stroke, thereby creating an opportunity for another person to replace him.

He further alleged that the individual decided to reveal the purported plot and remove the items after those who allegedly contracted him failed to fulfil their promises.

“Your Excellency Sir, the said fetish pot and items were indeed exhumed in my presence by him,” Offiong stated in the letter.

The Director General did not identify anyone he believed was behind the alleged scheme.

Offiong Seeks Government Attention

Offiong said his letter was intended to formally notify the governor of the incident rather than publicly accuse any particular individual.

He described the alleged incident as more than an ordinary administrative disagreement, arguing that it represented a calculated attempt to undermine his health and position as head of the agency.

He expressed gratitude to God, whom he credited with exposing the alleged plot and preserving his life.

The Director General also reaffirmed his loyalty to the Cross River State Government and thanked Governor Otu for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment.

He urged the state government to take note of the allegations for official records, describing the reported incident as a vindication amid the challenges he said he had faced since assuming office.
