Singer Brymo has sparked fresh controversy after alleging that Burna Boy is a cult member and claiming the Grammy-winning artiste paid to win a Grammy Award, remarks that have reignited their long-running feud.
The dispute dates back to September 2023, when Brymo accused Burna Boy of being fake and unoriginal, and stealing from older generations of Nigerian musicians.
He also mentioned Davido, Wizkid and Rema, arguing that they borrowed heavily from veteran artistes while attempting to redefine Afrobeats.
Brymo further claimed that the genre afrobeat was altered to afrobeats, a move he said undermined Fela Kuti’s legacy.
While Davido, Wizkid and Rema did not respond, Burna Boy appeared to address Brymo in a freestyle, rapping, “Hustle make you no go fall off like Brymo.”
Speaking during an interview in April 2024, Brymo said he would never acknowledge Burna Boy in a song, adding that he did not consider the two to be peers.
Brymo’s latest remarks have since divided fans on social media, with many Burna Boy supporters dismissing the allegations as baseless. Burna Boy has not publicly responded to the new claims.
