Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), brought singer Naira Marley on stage during an event in Abuja on Saturday night, drawing loud reactions from the audience.
While introducing the singer, VeryDarkMan appeared to reference recent remarks by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, saying:
“If you will leave your school to start selling akara, kuli-kuli or roasted corn, let me hear you say…”
The crowd responded enthusiastically before Naira Marley took the stage to perform.
The appearance is the latest in a series of public gestures by VeryDarkMan that many observers see as an effort to support Naira Marley’s return to the music industry following the controversy surrounding the death of singer Mohbad.
Naira Marley faced widespread public criticism after Mohbad’s death in September 2023, with allegations circulating online that linked him to circumstances surrounding the late singer’s demise.
The singerย has consistently denied any involvement or wrongdoing, and no court has found him responsible for Mohbad’s death.
Investigations into the case have involved multiple individuals and authorities.
VeryDarkMan has repeatedly argued that Naira Marley should not continue to be judged based on unproven allegations and has publicly backed the singer’s return to performing.
