The Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved judgment in a suit filed by Accord Party chieftain, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, seeking to compel the party to recognise him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Justice Mohammed Umar reserved judgment on Wednesday after counsel to the parties adopted their final written addresses, stating that a date for the verdict would be communicated to them.
Olawepo-Hashim, through his counsel, Henry Akunebu, is asking the court to order the Accord Party to immediately upload his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination portal as its presidential candidate.
He is also seeking an order directing INEC to accept and recognise his nomination for the 2027 presidential election.
The suit centres on a dispute over the Accord Party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
The court’s decision is expected to determine whether the party will be compelled to formally submit Olawepo-Hashim’s name to the electoral commission as its presidential flag bearer.
