President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senior political and government officials at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, ahead of the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.

The meetings took place hours before the Independent National Electoral Commission’s scheduled commencement of political campaigns on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Akpabio arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 6:12 pm in his official Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, was reportedly already meeting with the President at the time.

Also sighted at the Villa was the member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who arrived at about 7:15 pm.

His visit followed that of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, who was seen at the Presidential Villa about 20 minutes earlier.

Doguwa had earlier attended the National Peace Committee’s peace accord signing ceremony in Abuja.

Oyetola’s visit came days after his successor as Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election.

Dele Alake, was also seen at the Presidential Villa during the period, ahead of Wednesday’s scheduled Federal Executive Council meeting.

The agenda of the meetings was not made public, and none of the officials spoke to journalists after their respective visits.

Tinubu meeting with APC members came as political parties and aspirants intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the official campaign period beginning nationwide on Wednesday.
