The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on politicians and their supporters to put national unity above political interests as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda made the appeal in his Eid-ul-Mawlid message to Muslims and Nigerians on Sunday, warning that political competition should not be allowed to fuel ethnic, religious or political divisions.
According to him, electoral contests are temporary, while the bonds of brotherhood and national unity should remain enduring.
He urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his emphasis on compassion, tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence.
“At this challenging moment in our national journey, these values offer us a pathway to healing, unity and renewed hope,” Yilwatda said.
The APC chairman also urged Nigerians to see the country’s diversity as a strength and reject attempts to exploit ethnic and religious differences for political purposes.
“No political contest should destroy the bonds of brotherhood and national unity that bind us together,” he warned.
Yilwatda further called on the Muslim faithful to use the occasion of Eid-ul-Mawlid to pray for peace, security and prosperity in Nigeria, while seeking wisdom and courage for the country’s leaders.
He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, describing the country as one with immense talent, resilience and promise despite its current challenges.
He also prayed for Allah’s blessings on families and communities across the country and wished Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful and spiritually rewarding Eid-ul-Mawlid.
