Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, on her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, describing her emergence as a historic milestone for the legal profession and a significant step for women in leadership.
In a statement issued on Monday, the governor said Badejo-Okusanya’s election as only the second woman to lead the NBA reflected her decades of dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
He praised her reputation for excellence and legal expertise, expressing confidence that her leadership would strengthen the association and promote justice across the country.
Sanwo-Olu noted that her victory would inspire young women in Lagos State and across Nigeria to aspire to leadership positions in the legal profession and other sectors.
“Her rise to the leadership of the Bar reflects decades of hard work and relentless dedication to justice,” the governor said, adding that he believes her tenure will bring visionary leadership and further advance the cause of justice in Nigeria.
On behalf of the Lagos State Government and its residents, Sanwo-Olu wished the new NBA president a successful and impactful tenure.
Badejo-Okusanya secured victory in the NBA’s 2026 national officers’ election after polling 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 percent of the total votes cast. She defeated Lateef Akangbe (SAN), who garnered 7,934 votes, while Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) received 5,855 votes.
She will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, succeeding outgoing NBA President Afam Osigwe. Badejo-Okusanya is the second woman to head the association, following Priscilla Kuye, who served as NBA president between 1991 and 1992.
