A highly contagious eye infection popularly known as “Apollo” is reportedly spreading across Bauchi State, with the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, among those affected.

Suleiman disclosed this in a Facebook post on Sunday, saying he woke up with the infection and urged residents to take precautionary measures to curb its spread.

“By God’s grace, I woke up today with a highly contagious eye infection commonly known as ‘Apollo,’ which is currently spreading across Bauchi State,” the Speaker stated.

Expressing concern over the development, Suleiman advised residents to remain vigilant and maintain proper hygiene.

He also urged people to avoid sharing personal items that could facilitate transmission and to take appropriate preventive measures.

Apollo, medically known as conjunctivitis, is a contagious eye infection that can spread through contact with an infected person, contaminated surfaces or shared personal belongings.

The Speaker’s disclosure comes as residents are urged to exercise caution and maintain good hygiene to reduce the risk of further transmission across communities.
