Voting was temporarily suspended at the polling unit of the African Democratic Congress, governorship candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State following a reported attack by hoodlums.
The incident occurred at Polling Unit 4, Ward 4, where voting was disrupted after the suspected hoodlums reportedly stormed the polling centre.
Salaam was said to have been quickly moved away from the scene by supporters and others as tensions escalated.
Journalists who arrived to cover the incident were allegedly attacked, with vehicles belonging to some of the reporters reportedly damaged. Windscreens and side windows were said to have been smashed during the attack.
Some journalists reportedly escaped physical assault as the attackers allegedly went on a rampage around the polling unit.
Electoral officials were forced to halt voting temporarily as the situation became increasingly tense.
Hoodlums behind the attack remained unclear at the time of filing the report, while the extent of any injuries had yet to be ascertained.
