President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that preparations for the 2027 general elections will not hinder the National Assembly from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
Akpabio gave the assurance while speaking to journalists at the Presidential Wing of the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, shortly after convening a meeting of APC critical stakeholders in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said lawmakers remain committed to serving their full four-year mandate despite the commencement of political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We were elected for four years, and we are going to work for four years,” Akpabio said. “Campaigns can be scheduled in the afternoons or evenings, while legislative work continues during the day.”
He added that electioneering and lawmaking are separate responsibilities and expressed confidence that parliamentary activities would continue uninterrupted.
“It is not everybody that will campaign at the same time because we belong to different political parties. Nothing will affect legislation. We will continue to make laws that address the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of Parliament,” he said.
Akpabio’s remarks come days after APC stakeholders in his senatorial district endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akpabio, and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for another term in office ahead of the 2027 elections.
