Let me take you back to one of the most challenging seasons of my academic journey.
I was already pregnant in my second year of my Master’s programme when I gave birth. Around that same period, my examination date was fixed.
Unfortunately, I missed the first day of my exams because my newborn baby was admitted to the hospital with jaundice. I was exhausted, worried and overwhelmed, but I knew I still had to continue.
After we returned home, I went back for the remaining papers—with my baby who was barely two weeks old. 😭
Imagine sitting in an examination hall with a two-week-old baby
While writing my papers, he would sometimes cry, and I would have to step outside to breastfeed him before returning to continue my examination.
It wasn’t easy at all.
But somehow, by the grace of God, I finished my exams.
Then came the project defence.
Two weeks after my exams, I had to appear before the panel to defend my project—and yes, my little baby came along with me. 😂
Then came the moment I was called to defend.
Just as I started, my baby started crying 😭😂
The interviewers had to patiently wait while I tried to pacify him before we could continue.
Eventually, we carried on, but everything had to be rushed because of my little “co-defender.” 😂
Looking back today, I can only say:
GLORY BE TO GOD 🙌
I didn’t have the perfect circumstances. I didn’t have everything figured out. I was a student, a new mother, breastfeeding a newborn, and trying to complete my Master’s degree all at once.
But I made it.
🎓❤️
Sometimes, life doesn’t give you the perfect conditions before you pursue your dreams. You simply do the best you can with what you have and keep moving.
To every mother trying to pursue a dream while raising children: your journey may look different, but that doesn’t mean your dream is impossible.
I finished strong. And today, this story reminds me that with God’s grace, we can do much more 💪
