Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved the recruitment of 6,580 teachers and support staff into public primary and junior secondary schools as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s education sector and operationalise its Smart Green Schools initiative.
The recruitment was announced in a vacancy advertisement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Hyginus Banko, which stated that the exercise would primarily provide personnel for the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools.
According to the board, 4,698 vacancies are available for teachers in core subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), French, Igbo Language and History.
Other available positions include 520 Digital Librarians, 380 Experiential Learning Innovators, 267 Guidance Counsellors, 267 ICT personnel, 267 Laboratory Attendants, 136 Account Officers and 45 Technicians.
ENSUBEB said applicants for teaching positions must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a Higher National Diploma with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or a Nigeria Certificate in Education in the relevant subject areas. Candidates must also provide proof of registration, ongoing registration or registration status with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
The board added that qualification requirements for non-teaching positions vary according to the role and include degrees in specialised fields such as Library and Information Science, STEM and Psychology, as well as Ordinary National Diploma, Trade Test Certificates or SSCE/WASSCE for technical and support positions.
It further stated that applicants with Degree or HND qualifications must present a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate, while proficiency in Information and Communication Technology tools is mandatory for all cadres.
Interested candidates are required to submit a formal application letter, detailed curriculum vitae, copies of their credentials, a birth certificate or sworn declaration of age, and valid contact information.
ENSUBEB emphasised that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and urged applicants to submit their applications on or before August 14, 2026.
