The Nigerian Army has announced plans to deploy over 8,000 newly trained soldiers to reinforce ongoing military operations against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats across the country.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made the announcement during the Passing Out Parade of recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army in Osogbo, Osun State.
He described the graduation as a significant milestone in the Army’s drive to strengthen its manpower and sustain nationwide security operations.
Shaibu said the recruitment forms part of the Federal Government’s directive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enlist an additional 28,000 personnel into the Nigerian Army to improve its force structure and operational capacity.
According to him, the newly graduated soldiers underwent intensive military training designed to enhance their physical fitness, tactical skills, leadership abilities, and combat readiness for contemporary security challenges.
The Army Chief noted that the recruits are joining the service at a critical period when troops are actively engaged in multiple operations to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty, protect lives and property, and combat emerging security threats.
He urged the soldiers to uphold discipline, professionalism, courage, loyalty, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties, stressing that the nation has invested heavily in their training and expects the highest standards of service.
Also speaking at the event, Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, who represented Governor Ademola Adeleke, congratulated the graduates and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces in maintaining peace, security, and national development.
He encouraged the newly enlisted soldiers to remain dedicated to serving the country.
